IN a show of support for the local Muslim community in Cagayan de Oro during the end of Ramadan, City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy will be providing 500 rice packs to Muslim sidewalk vendors in Cogon and Carmen on Wednesday, April 10, at the City Tourism Hall.
This gesture was in line with Mayor Uy’s commitment to his radio program ‘Inyong Alagad, Mayor Klarex UY’ which aired on Friday last week.
According to Uy, the distribution of free rice packs aims to provide relief and support to the city’s Muslim community as they face the end of a month-long fasting period during Ramadan.
This comes just in time before the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, the concluding day of Ramadan.
City Mayor’rs Office chief of staff Sheila Lumbatan said Mayor Uy’s priority is to uplift the spirits of the vendors, who are expected to face financial struggles during the last days of Ramadan.
“This act of kindness demonstrates the city’s commitment to inclusivity and support for all residents, regardless of their religious beliefs,” said Lumbatan.
She also highlighted the need for solidarity and compassion in times of hardship, and expressed gratitude to Mayor Klarex Uy for his leadership in promoting unity and understanding within the community.
The distribution of the rice packs is just one of the many initiatives that Mayor Klarex Uy has undertaken to support vulnerable communities in Cagayan de Oro.
Uy’s administration, Lumbatan said has consistently prioritized the welfare of all residents, regardless of background, and has worked tirelessly to address the needs of marginalized groups.
