IN response to the circulating social media posts regarding Pertussis, the City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro released a statement to address the situation.
City Health Officer Rachel Daba-Dilla emphasized that, by a strict definition of the term, there is currently no outbreak of Pertussis in Cagayan de Oro.
However, it is important to note that the number of cases is on the rise.
The City Health Office, through the City Health Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in collaboration with the Department of Health Center for Health Development, has confirmed the existence of 2 suspect cases and 1 confirmed case in the area.
While the situation is being closely monitored, the public is urged to observe proper cough etiquette, practice regular hand washing, wear face masks – especially in public and crowded places, and consider vaccination against Pertussis.
The City Health Officer assured the public that active case finding and surveillance of cases are being carried out to manage the situation effectively.
Individuals with concerns or seeking more information are encouraged to visit any Health Centers or reach out to the City Health Office for assistance.
