In a heartening development, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) proudly announced on Saturday that 91 individuals with disabilities (PWDs) have successfully completed their social and vocational training at the National Vocational Training Center.
The graduation ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and determination exhibited by these graduates in the face of challenges. DSWD Assistant Secretary Elaine Fallarcuna, reflecting on this achievement, remarked, “This milestone is a testament to their perseverance in overcoming challenges and their unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth. Each graduate embodies the spirit of resilience, complementing that with hard work, determination, and support, any obstacle can be overcome.”
Throughout the duration of their training, the graduates immersed themselves in various courses spanning diverse fields such as housekeeping and janitorial services, computer literacy, massage and beauty therapy, and food preparation. This comprehensive curriculum not only equipped them with valuable skills but also fostered personal development and confidence.
Fallarcuna emphasized the transformative impact of such vocational training, stating, “It provides a learning environment that enables persons with disabilities to return to their communities as better individuals in terms of making decisions, articulating their ideas, relating to people, and improving economic conditions.”
The commitment of the DSWD to the welfare of the PWD community remains unwavering. Fallarcuna reiterated the agency’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and accessibility, affirming, “As these graduates embark on the next chapter of their lives, the DSWD, through the NVRC, reaffirms our commitment to creating inclusive and accessible opportunities for all individuals.”
The successful graduation of these 91 PWDs stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, underscoring the potential for empowerment and advancement within the disability community. As they step forward into the world armed with newfound skills and confidence, their journey serves as a testament to the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
