Unilever Philippines and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) renewed their long-standing partnership to help disaster and emergency-affected communities across the country.
Through the partnership, Unilever Philippines supports nationwide disaster response by providing sanitation products and training disaster response volunteers.
Unilever Philippines Sustainability Lead, Rondell Torres shared that working with the Philippine Red Cross is an opportunity to serve more Filipino communities and families, especially in challenging times. “Unilever Philippines is proud to stand with the PRC and all Filipinos in solidarity and concern through our brands and our teams to truly make sustainable living commonplace,” Torres shared.
The partnership is part of Unilever’s Join and Enable Sustainability (Given by Unilever) program, which enables employees and partners to participate in sustainability and volunteer efforts.
Unilever and PRC have conducted various internal humanitarian activities in the past, including calamity response activities during the recent eruption of Taal Volcano and the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, Unilever Philippines launched the Caring for All program, which provided PhP4 million worth of sanitation and hygiene products, ventilators in various hospitals nationwide, and freezers to store the COVID-19 vaccines.
“Collaboration is the key to meeting the needs of our fellow citizens, especially in times of crisis,” repeated Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, Richard J. Gordon. “We reaffirm our commitment to work together to serve communities with care and compassion.” Gordon maintained that the PRC looks forward to a fruitful partnership in their shared mission to build sustainable and strong Filipino communities, where all can live in dignity and support each other.
In 2021, the two parties are working together to promote handwashing in various schools during Global Handwashing Day, just in time for the return of face-to-face classes. PRC has also become a staple partner of Unilever’s Safety, Health, and Environment team to train emergency and first aid volunteers and conduct blood-letting activities. dr. Gwendolyn T. Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross, engage in partnerships that are especially important when addressing the needs of vulnerable communities. Pang explained, “With our combined efforts and resources, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected. We are grateful for this partnership, and we are committed to working closely with Unilever Philippines towards our shared vision of a stronger and more sustainable Philippines.”
