City of ILIGAN ― There is a tarpaulin in the center of the city that hangs badly in all its ugliness. But the thing is, nobody cares. People here have other things on their minds. What do they do with the tarpaulins that no longer attract the eyes?
I’m talking about this tarp hanging by some “loose thread” so to speak. With only a few words to read. If you want to read, that is.
Not long ago, such a tarp was a happy-looking tarp. It has the size of an airplane runway as well. Well, almost. Although I am exaggerating. The tarp happily announced, by looking at it that “on this site will rise the world-class market.” Like that. One cannot help but look at it happily. With the feeling that finally, some dreams will come true. Like this dream market!
A kind of love story. Between a contractor, BM Marketing, and this local government unit under former mayor Celso G. Regencia and his Vice Jemar Vera Cruz.
And so the construction began, with some fanfare before it actually began. Through a presscon, with the local media here on February 20, 2020.
Days later, it really started. So the “futuristic” tarp of the word “will” has become a reality. A present tense, although it has a future date as well. And provide other information such as how much is included in the amount, and when it is scheduled to be completed, (December 31. 2021). And who is the agency involved in managing it?
People here are starting to notice that it’s getting slower and slower. But it has a good reason to be like that. There are lockdowns, no thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ah…so. These are also the reasons for extensions, extensions, extensions, and more extensions of the contractor. Even if the pandemic subsides. People here are starting to get impatient. But there is still “love” between the LGU and the contractor. A case of “for all your faults, I still love you.”
But a “beloved” must go. This is inevitable, because of the 2022 elections. Instead, another “beloved” took over. Led by city mayor Frederick W. Siao.
Well, this new party cannot tolerate slowness. Or the mistakes. Something needs to be done. Analysis, analysis, analysis. Maybe to prevent some “paralysis” of the project, according to their view?
So, after all, said and done, the LGU terminated the contractor, BM Marketing. And this time, it is still in many ways to study. How will it continue? Will they hire another contractor? Although they are considering another option as well. The city has to do it, itself. With some outside help too, in many aspects they don’t need people, or skills, to do it.
Meanwhile, I heard some comments on the air about some torn tarps. Like those who say: “Welcome to barang…” the word “barangay” can no longer be read as it is already torn. partially.
But that torn tarpaulin hung by some loose: “thread” in the center of the city, doesn’t seem to bother people.
Maybe, for one, people just see it as a “very minor concern”? The name of Mayor Celso G. Regencia can still be read there. And part of the vice mayor Jemar Vera Cruz. And other information on the tarp? Already torn, torn. In time, in time. Don’t they say that life is just a “case of weather-weather”?
So in the meantime, I suggest that something be done with this torn tarp!
