On 12 March 2024, the Executive Director of the International Commission Against the Death Penalty (ICDP), Ms. Asunta Vivó Cavaller, together with Director Rajiv Narayan made a courtesy call on His Excellency, Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier, to discuss and acknowledge the Philippines´ efforts on supporting the objectives of the ICDP towards the abolition the death penalty in the world through our country´s proposed financial contribution to the Commission.
The work of the International Commission Against the Death Penalty (ICDP), an independent body of politically influential people with international standing, is supported by a geographically diverse group of 23 countries committed to the abolition of the death penalty. This Support Group is composed of 23 Member States: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Togo, Turkey and United Kingdom.
The Philippines is one of the founding members of ICDP, which signed the founding declaration on 28 September 2010. Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is one of the esteemed Commissioners of the International Comission Against the Death Penalty.
