Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Stephanie Poetri continues her musical evolution with the release of her new single, “Invited,” out today via Infinite Thrills/88Rising. “Invited” follows Stephanie’s latest single “Astrologically Illogical,” as well as a US tour supporting Lyn Lapid, which saw Poetri win over packed rooms across the country. While his music is known for its gentle, ethereal qualities, these new songs reflect his continued growth as a songwriter and see Poetri embrace the power of his voice with a bolder and edgier sound inspired by the indie rock he grew up with. “There weren’t many female artists in the world before,” said Poetri, “so I saw myself wanting to fulfill that position, and make songs with a small part. I want to put more femininity in indie rock.
Growing up in Indonesia with a former trombonist and marching band instructor for a father, and a pop star for a mother it was Kygo’s tropical home and K-pop melodies that cemented Stephanie’s early interest in music. His initial intention was to become a tropical house producer, but after discovering and being inspired by K-Pop, Poetri began to take up songwriting. In the midst of his first ever production class, Poetri began releasing songs just for fun, the second release being his 2019 viral hit, “I Love You 3000,” which has reached over 365 million streams to date, including 156 million views on the DIY video he and his sister made to accompany it, and a remix version, “I0 Wang II You,” with Jackson 300. Poetri never finished the production class and has been writing and releasing music ever since.
Although his sound continues to evolve, one quality that continues to be a constant in Poetri’s writing is his authenticity and sensitivity in sharing relatable experiences with fans. “Invited” is an honest examination of the ego and the need to be included and is fueled by the desire to be invited to the party, while knowing that no onea.
“Invited” and “Astrologically Illogical” followed the release of Poetri’s collaborative tracks, “No Explanations” (with Elephante and ZHANG YANQI)” and “Breakfast in Bed” (with gnash).” Next, Poetri will be performing at the Head in the Clouds Festival in Los Angeles, CA taking place August 5th and 6th.
