The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced a P0.7213 per kilowatt hour (kWh) reduction in electricity charges this July. This reduction is equivalent to P144 total savings for a typical household that consumes 200 kWh. Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga explained that the rate reduction is mainly due to lower generation charges due to lower costs from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, Power Supply Agreements, and Independent Power Producers.
