DIGOS CITY ― Luckily, the couple escaped inside the house in Purok-6, Sitio Pungot, Barangay Escuela, Tugbok District of Davao City unharmed from the burning structure.
Gemma Sebastian de los Reyes and her husband Jaime were busy doing their respective tasks inside their house when lightning struck the rooftop, igniting the light materials that quickly spread throughout the area, causing the couple to go out and call to 911 from a safe distance.
Major Elisa Ramirez, Los Amigos police station commander in a report said that a team onboard Mobile 2125 was sent to conduct public safety and order during the situation.
BFP personnel of Mintal, Calinan Fire Station, and Central 911 firefighters quickly went to the area to contain and extinguish the fire. At 8:12 in the evening, it was declared a fire-out, according to the police report.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Genesis Sitcharon of BFP Mintal told the police that lightning ignited the light materials on the second floor of the house and spread to the ground floor.
No one was injured or injured in the incident. Fire investigators estimated that the damage will be around P700,000.
