CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy revealed his dedication to public service even during his recently held 70th birthday celebration this week.
During his birthday celebration, Uy first stopped at the JR Borja General Hospital, where he gave complimentary meals to the patients.
Mayor Uy strongly believes in a government that is close to the people and expressed happiness in bringing government services closer to the citizens.
“Even though it’s my 70th birthday today, I’m still committed to serving the people,” said Uy, adding that it brings great joy to bring important government services closer to the people.
As part of his birthday celebration, Uy personally gave 15 wheelchairs and crutches to people who have difficulty moving due to health problems.
This work is made possible by the generosity of the mayor’s family and is really aimed at helping people with disabilities.
“This is my gift to them, which I and my family donated especially for the benefit of the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) sector,” said Uy.
The mayor also thanked the people who celebrated his birthday and appreciated their support.
“I am very grateful to the people who joined me in celebrating my birthday,” said Uy in the Visayan dialect.
He also emphasized that serving the community is not his only duty but a way to show his love to all its members.
Throughout his time as mayor, Uy has consistently worked to make positive changes and improve the lives of the citizens.
Despite his age, he vowed to continue working hard to meet the needs and concerns of the community and build a city where everyone has equal opportunities and a better future.
“Celebrating the mayor’s 70th birthday shows his unwavering commitment to public service,” said Sheila Lumbatan, the chief of the city mayor’s office.
Lumbatan said that this shows his true desire to make real improvements and uplift the lives of those he serves.
“The community was inspired and felt hopeful and united,” according to Lumbatan, who added that the people praised Mayor Uy for his selflessness and compassion.
They admire his ability to lead by example and make a positive impact through acts of kindness.
He said that celebrating the birthday has become a factor in developing empathy and encouraging others to contribute to the welfare of the community.
The city is ready to overcome the challenges and embrace the future where compassion and progress will go together under the leadership of the mayor.
