ILIGAN City ― The recent development of the noontime variety show “Eat Bulaga,” said my friend Fely when he arrived at the office. That’s it, after the civility, because we haven’t seen each other in a while.
“Yes,” he added, “a case of two heads is better than one..” And then he went on to say that the “heads” were the management of Tape, Inc. on one side and “TVJ” or “Dabarkads’ on the other. He even told me that Tape stands for “Television and Production Exponents, Inc.”
“We’ve been enjoying said show for 44 years,” he added, after clearing his throat. “But only one man called Nothing lasts forever,” he added with a joke.
“What?” I asked pretending to be ignorant. And then, he said, “The tape, in other words, belongs to Romy Jalosjos Sr. and Tony Tuviera, with the former having a 75 percent stake while the latter, in 25 %.
“How do you know all this?” I asked, in disbelief.
“I googled it. You know, everything can be googled these days. If you know how to look!” Is this an innuendo I don’t know how?
“So, they separated.”
“But I heard that they have separate shows. “Eat Bulaga” remained on the same TV network while the three with their ‘Kabarkads’ moved to another one, on TV 5. And it was shown earlier this month under a different name. But they are still fighting in court over who bears the said name. “
My friend said everything as if he had authority and all the knowledge on the matter. Of course, he was there. With all who seek and seek. And I remember the mantra of a senatorial candidate “Sergio” alias “Serge” who said during the campaign, “e–Serge mo!” Which has a double meaning.
And then, my friend maintained that now, it is a case of “he said” on the one hand and “she said” on the other.
“What do you mean?” I asked. The Jalosjos team or Tape said they wanted to do cost-cutting by removing some of those involved because the show was losing. But on the other hand, the TVJ team said it will not lose because, in the 2022 statement filed with the SEC, it has a net income of more than P200 million.
Analyzing for a moment, the situation, I said: “So now, it’s a case of ‘too many cooks spoil the soup!” I said with conviction.
“That’s right, my friend. You are so right there!” He said with the same conviction in his tone as well.
I think this is a simple analysis of a complex situation. And then I remembered the situation of the fate of the “world-class” Palao market here. That is due to some “analysis and observation” of the new administration under Mayor Frederick Siao. Among them, is the “safety of the people here,” whatever that means. And the admin of Siao warned a lot to prove that they were right that the contractor of Celso Regencia’s administration, as mayor, BM Marketing, was evicted from Tacloban City and was looking for another one.
“Just politicized,” said Jun Lino Bacus, a die-hard Regencia supporter. “It was kicked out because it wasn’t theirs, and um…um…” Of course, one can read what he meant.
However the case of “Eat Bulaga” show is still going on I see. Fely said that Jalosjos, Sr. is an ex-convict.
“But it has nothing to do with this ‘tug of war’ between the two parties. “Oh, by the way,” he added, TVJ means Tito, Vic, and Joey. I mean Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon.” As if I was really ignorant of the matter! Which is also a simplistic way of reading me.,
