DIGOS City ― A flatbed truck whose driver was reportedly under the influence of alcohol resulted in a collision with several vehicles that occurred on CP Garcia Highway, Matina Pangi Diversion Road in Davao City on July 20 at night.
Police Major Noel Villahermosa in the spot report said that eight different vehicles were involved in the accident such as a taxi, two motorcycles, a bicycle, three private cars, and the flatbed truck.
Police Corporal Bernado, the duty traffic investigator aboard Mobile Patrol Number 23 driven by Police Staff Sergeant Ducusin went to the area to conduct an ocular investigation.
In the investigation, it was found that around 9:30 in the evening on July 20, the seven vehicles were following the South bound lane of the highway towards Maa road while the flatbed truck loaded with steel bars ran in the other direction.
The traffic investigators said that the flatbed truck driven by Romel Manamatao Icalina, 39, turned to the left side of the road and collided in front of the Toyota Vios taxi driven by Lito Alimasag Villaganto, 55, from Purok-5, Kilometer 5, Matina Pangi, Davao City. The passenger was identified as Roger Relacion 63 Gemperona.

Due to the force of the impact, the truck dragged the taxi causing it to hit the motorcycle driven by Pamfilo Lupio Decena, Jr., 43, with the back-rider identified as Eugene Manong Paron, 28; and a bicycle driven by Noel Urbandozo Funa, 40.
The truck dragged the cars on the road and hit the left rear side of the Suzuki FU150 driven by Melshedeck Hope Caburnay Aranas.
While the truck driver was maneuvering the car to turn left at Matina Crossing, the steel bars fell to the ground causing it to hit the Toyota Fortuner driven by Ansary Julas Lazarte Naga, 32, and the Isuzu MU-X driven by Roy Gabisan, 45, according to the report.
The Isuzu Highlander driven by Karl Vincent Jameliarin Demaulo also collided with the tail of the Isuzu MU-X.
Emergency responders from Central 911 and Barangay Matina Crossing ambulance brought the taxi driver (Villaganto) and his passenger (Gemperona) to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment.
The driver of the Honda XRM (Decena) and his back-rider (Paron) along with the bicycle driver (Funa) were also quickly taken to the same hospital to treat their injuries, according to the traffic investigation report.
The police have not yet released their progress report on the incident.
